It’s just the second round of the German Bundesliga’s new season, but we’re about to see the first big derby since the start of the campaign.
Schalke 04 are hosting the current champion Bayern Munich, who is also leading the table after the first round.
It couldn’t be a better start for Carlo Ancelotti, since the Italian manager took the reigns at the Bavarian club. First he won the German Supercup, beating the arch-rival Borussia Dortmund in a direct clash for the trophy, and after that he led his team to a 6-0 thrashing against Werder Bremen in the first game of the new Bundesliga season. It’s the best possible start for the Italian tactician in German football and it’s not surprising that Bayern are once again labeled as the big favourite to win the gold medals in the end of the campaign.
Schalke on the other hand didn’t start the new Bundesliga season in the best way possible. The Royal Blues dissapointed during their visit to Frankfurt, losing against Eintracht. It was a bad game for Schalke, with Markus Weinzierl’s team being unable to score even once during the 90 minutes.
Now it’s time for even a tougher test for Schalke. Unless the Royal Blues do not improve their performance since the first game, it would be really difficult for them to take something from an inspired and in-form Bayern Munich. It’s been six years since Schalke managed to beat Bayern for the last time. This happened on December 4 2010, when the Royal Blues took a 2-0 win at home against the Bavarians.
Prediction: It’s been six years since Schalke managed to beat Bayern for the last time. Looking at the two teams right now, it’s hard to think that it’s going to happen now. Bayern still looks like a much better side than Schalke, so it would be a huge surprise if the Bavarians leave Gelsenkirchen without the full three points. It’s a good moment to bet for Bayern winning once again versus Schalke.
